There’s no where in the Bible that says one must learn the order of the books that make up the Bible, so why should we encourage our kids to learn them?
Well, it’s handy to know your way around God’s Word, and to have confidence as you navigate and study it.
This craft is also an opportunity to talk about the sections of the Bible. I shared the structure of the NT with my 8YO, explaining the Gospels were about the life of Jesus, then Acts recorded the “actions” of the apostles, followed by almost all of the rest of the books being actual letters sent to someone or a group of believers. For example Ephesians was a letter sent to Ephesus to the Ephesians (and if you have your phone handy, open up Google Maps and show them exactly where Ephesus in Turkey are!).
When the basics are explained and understood, our kids can make sense of the Word of God, knowing that it’s not just some mystical holy book that fell from the sky, but that it has historical roots, and a reason for being chosen for the Bible.
