After His baptism, Jesus was led into the desert and tempted three times by the devil – to turn stones into bread, to throw Himself from the temple, and to bow down and worship someone other than God. Each time, Jesus answered with Scripture – “It is written…” and stood firm. This paper sword craft carries all three of those verses right on the blade, the very words Jesus held onto in the desert (Matthew 4:1-11; Deuteronomy 8:3, 6:16, 6:13; NIV). Kids can decorate the handle with gems to make their sword their own a simple, hands-on picture of Ephesians 6:17: the sword of the Spirit, the word of God, ready before the moment we need it.
