The Ten Commandments show us life without sin. God Himself wrote the law to keep His people on track with the life He wanted to give them. Without the Ten Commandments, the morals of the world are simply based on evolutionary survival instincts – which aren’t in line with God’s plan for humanity. For example, God tells us not to want what others have. Why? Because of life of contentment is a blessing! The principles of evolution suggest that we take what we need to survive.
All of God’s laws are a blessings if we rest in them. And yes, the word is rest, because we don’t need to work to keep His law – we let the Holy Spirit change us to keep God’s law. The law, while a deeply theological topic, is a worthy one to teach children – not just because we want our children to make good choices, but because Jesus fulfilled the law which helps us to see Jesus more clearly.
