Palm Sunday Jesus Rides a Donkey Bible Craft
The people in the crowd KNEW Jesus was God! They had seen His miracles. They heard His words from heaven. They were convinced, and they thought Jesus was about to declare Himself king. So they celebrated His arrival into Jerusalem with pure, uninhibited joy.
This craft shows Jesus riding on a donkey as people lay down their robes on the dusty road and wave palm branches. They honoured Him by giving what they had – their clothes, their celebration, their loud voices. Their hearts swelled with happiness. They weren’t solemn or stiff or reserved. They were alive with JOY at the presence of their King.
Palm branches were waved. Robes were laid down for the donkey to walk over. Voices were raised. Children were part of the celebration, shouting “Hosanna!” – which means “Save us!” They understood, even in their childlike way, that something extraordinary was happening. Jesus was here.
Let’s show our children this kind of JOY when we draw near to God. Not a quiet, sad, or fearful approach – but a celebration of His presence. Help them understand that worshipping Jesus, knowing Jesus, being near Jesus, is cause for genuine, heartfelt happiness.
